The Nebraska National Forest is seeking motivated candidates to fill two permanent positions for the Pine Ridge Ranger District and the Wall Ranger District for the Support Services Specialist, GS-0342-08. These are permanent full-time positions. The duty location(s) are the Pine Ridge Ranger District in Chadron, Nebraska and the Wall Ranger District in Wall, South Dakota. The purpose of this Outreach Notice is to inform prospective applicants of this upcoming opportunity.
Description of duties associated with this position:
The Support Services Specialist assists with customer service for the front desk, human resource functions including inputting of personnel actions and paycheck actions. Assists with records management – hard copy and electronic filing and processes correspondence. Mailroom and supply room management. May include micro-purchasing and entering contract requisitions. Helps maintain property and inventory records. Office automation and technology skills in various software and database operations. Work varies from sedentary to moderately active. The applicant must be able to handle long periods of sitting at a desk. Occasional physical activity will include lifting, bending, and carrying moderate weight objects.
What We Are Looking for In a Candidate
To be successful in this Support Services Specialist position you must be a self-starter and willing to take on challenges and provide innovative solutions to problems. The ability to lead, manage, and serve as a supportive team member are all vital elements of the position. A customer service mentality, both internally and externally, is very important to being successful. The ability to manage multiple, and sometimes shifting, priorities in a calm, efficient, and organized manner. Strong verbal and written communication skills are a must.
Qualification Requirements:
Those who are interested must meet the qualification requirements for the 0342 series that is covered by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions – Support Services Specialist, GS-5/6/7/8. About the Nebraska National Forests and Grasslands:
The NNFG encompasses over 1.1 million acres of land in both Nebraska and South Dakota, including five Ranger Districts and one Nursery. The Pine Ridge Ranger District includes part of the Nebraska National Forest and all of the Oglala National Grassland in the northwest corner of the state. The Bessey Ranger District includes a portion of the Nebraska National Forest in west-central and the McKelvie National Forest in north-central NE. The Bessey Nursery is co-located with the Bessey Ranger District at Halsey, NE. The Fall River Ranger District and Wall Ranger District share management of the Buffalo Gap National Grassland across southwestern South Dakota. The Ft. Pierre National Grassland is managed by the Ft. Pierre Ranger District and is situated in south-central South Dakota.
The Supervisor’s Office is located in Chadron, Nebraska and is co-located with the Pine Ridge Ranger District. The Pine Ridge Job Corps Center is located 10 miles south of Chadron and is a close partner with the Nebraska National Forests and Grasslands.
